The basics of search engine optimization (SEO)
Introduction
If you're in business, it's
important to get your website ranked high on search engines. And if you're not?
You should be! This article will cover the basics of search engine optimization
(SEO): what it is, and why you should care about it.
Keywords
Keywords are the words that people
use to search for things online. If you want your site to be found by the right
audience, then you need to optimize it so that it ranks well in Google’s searchresults.
Keywords can change over time and
they can vary depending on what type of content you are posting on your
website. For example, if someone searched “how to cook hamburgers” on Google
during a recent news article about cooking hamburgers, they would see results
related to this topic first because these specific keywords were used in the
article title (i.e., “how do I cook hamburger patties?”).
Content
is king
Content is king :- Content is the most important part of SEO, and content is the most important part of life. In fact, it's probably one of the only things that can make or break your business or career—and if you want to be successful in any capacity, then you need to learn how to create quality content in order to get noticed by search engines like Google and Bing.
The way I see it: If someone
searches for something specific on Google (or Bing), then they're probably
looking for information about that topic or product category; so if your
website has great written content about whatever it is they're searching for
(e.g., "how do I write an article"), then chances are good that
search engines will rank your site higher than sites without much content at
all!
Make
meta tags and titles strong
Meta tags are the description of a
page. They're the first thing people see when they search for something and
should be descriptive, keyword-rich and unique for each page.
For example:
Optimize
your site's loading speed
- Compression: The first step in optimizing your site's
loading speed is to compress all images and CSS files. This will reduce
the amount of data that needs to be sent over the web, resulting in faster
page loads and less bandwidth required.
 - Content Delivery Network (CDN): A CDN makes sure that
all copies of your website are hosted close to where you want them—in this
case, at Google's servers. The goal here is for each user's request for
information on a specific topic or product within their industry be sent
directly from one server rather than going through multiple locations
     before reaching its destination.
 - Caching: Another way to improve performance is by caching
any static content on your site so that when other users request this
information again later on down the road it won't take up valuable
resources needed elsewhere within their browser window

Increase
visibility of your site on social media
To increase the visibility of your
site on social media, you can create a profile for it. Then use that profile to
share content and encourage people to share it as well. You can also use social
media to get people to follow your site or subscribe to it by sharing content
(like articles) from other sources.
Adding a social media account is
simple: just go into the settings menu of whatever website or app you’re using
and click “add account” under “Integrations.” If there isn't an option there,
try searching "add account" in Google Chrome's browser bar—you may
have access if Google Chrome is installed on your computer!
You can use these techniques to make
a website rank higher in Google search results.
- Keyword research: This is the first step to SEO, where
you need to identify keywords that users searching for your products or
services might use when they're looking at a website. You'll want your
keywords to be as long as possible because they will show up on page 1 of
Google searches and determine how high up on the page you appear.
 - On-Page Optimization: This includes things like title
tags, meta descriptions, H1 headings, images, internal links and other
elements that help define what kind of content is being presented by your
site (for example: "product reviews" vs "customer
testimonials"). These are all important factors when determining
whether someone clicks through from one place on their search engine
results page (SERP) into another one that might have been missed if not
optimized properly—or worse yet if there were no optimization at all!
